dsi's CAM Engineering Department is tasked with program and support functions for the
electronic assembly manufacturing floor. The services CAM Engineering provides include:

  • Programming automated SMT placement and other SMT programmable assembly equipment.
  • Programming automated through-hole placement machines.
  • Developing process drawings (see example).
  • Designing stencil paste artwork and specifying parameters for the solder paste application.
  • Supporting the SMT area during the run of each job.
  • Supporting the through-hole area during the run of each job.

To most effectively meet a customer's needs, CAM Engineering requires the following files from the customer:

  • ASCII CAD file (detailed instructions for extraction)
    Other options include gerbers and X-Y Data
    Note: Without use of CAD, a job can:
    • take more time
    • require more manual work, which is more prone to errors
    • cost more -- usually double.
  • Bill of materials in Excel format
  • Assembly drawings
  • Paste artwork (to be included with other gerber files)
