Our engineering roots stem from dsi’s founders, Stanley Bentley (President, PE) and
Dave Jessup (V.P. Technology). Starting work out of Stanley’s garage, they have grown
the company to its current success, and they continue to provide the foundation
that makes dsi capable of producing most anything. It’s hard to find comprehensive engineering solutions and disciplines all under one roof, but not at dsi. Product Support Engineering is a huge department here. The department is subdivided into 10 groups, all working together to ensure the product quality and customer satisfaction that are the pride of dsi. You’ll find brief descriptions of each group below, but don’t hesitate to call and see what else our engineers can do for you! Product Engineering: This group is directly responsible for certain products they are assigned. They become intimately familiar with all circumstances, requirements, and customer needs surrounding the product. Methods Engineering: Our Methods team evaluates every product for manufacturability, product flow, process capability and complexity. They determine the most efficient and cost effective method of assembling each board. Electrical Engineering: Understanding the heart beat of the electronic units, this group is able to support the manufacturing floor at a moment’s notice and assist with any need they may have. Mechanical Engineering: Supporting the manufacturing floor with tools, fixtures, pallets and drawings, this group is also the architect behind the mechanical assembly department. Industrial Engineering: The flow of the manufacturing floor falls under domain of the Industrial Engineers. Ergonomics and configuration of the lines for increased efficiency is their primary objective. Chemical Engineering: Yes, Chemical Engineering! This group handles all incoming testing of outsourced PCB’s prior to assembly. They are MIL certified, and they handle cross-sectioning and delamination testing. Testing of the boards prior to assembly is very rare in our industry, but this team does it all. They also serve the EMS group in analyzing the solder, flux and encapsulation and coatings. Quality Engineering: Working on the floor or analyzing data on the computer, this team assures that all products are manufactured according to the customers’ quality standards and our own certifications and registrations. Immediate feedback of information is a critical part of this group’s mission, and they take it very seriously. Process Engineering: If processes are out of sync, product quality may suffer. This group tirelessly verifies, designs and maintains all of the processes on the manufacturing floor. Test Engineering: What better way to ensure a board’s performance than to test it? Test is an insurance policy that we make an intimate part of every project. This group not only performs the product testing, but also helps the customer design testing methodology into the product. Click here for a full rundown of our testing capabilities and methodology. CAM Engineering: This team has two distinct missions. First, the team reviews, tools and engineers board fabrication files for outsource of boards. dsi is well-versed in board manufacturing, having produced boards in-house until recently. This upfront engineering service really sets dsi apart from other EMS companies. Secondly, this group handles the programming of equipment on the assembly floor. They synchronize programs to run the most efficiently, and they work with the Product and Process Engineering teams to develop plans for running each project. |
